Through his experience and progression within the department, he developed into a supervising art director, earning an early senior credit on GoldenEye (1995). Lamont subsequently established himself as a leading figure in film art direction, working on a range of major productions. A significant chapter of Lamont's career came through his longstanding collaboration with production designer Stuart Craig on the Harry Potter franchise. He served as supervising art director across all eight films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and continuing through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). His contribution to the franchise was recognised at the 2012 Art Directors Guild Awards, where he shared the Excellence in Production Design Award in the Fantasy Film category for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). He also received the Guild's Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award as part of the creative team behind the entire Harry Potter film series.
